Dr Joseph, and Nurses Gabbe and Coco ran a spay and neuter clinic May 1st to 6th, 2024.
Fifty-two pets were brought to the clinic: 18 cats and 34 dogs. Total number of spays 10 and total number of neuters was 13. There were however lots of pets who received vaccine and who had treatment or follow up treatment for heartworm disease.
The incidence of heart worm in Pohnpei remains high at over 20%.
The team continues to see a lot of parvovirus disease; a vaccine preventable disease. This disease is highly contagious and has a very high mortality rate of over 90%.
