Kidi Oangoahng is a non-profit animal welfare corporation founded in October 2022 by a small group of animal lovers in Pohnpei. The Kidi Oangoahng mission is multi-faceted. Primarily our mission is to promote sustainable, humane animal control while at the same time educating the community about animal welfare. We aim to provide information about how to properly care for not only pets, but also to share best practices on the humane treatment of roaming domestic animals, farm animals and all wildlife, whether caged or uncaged.
KOO long-term goal is to spay and neuter 70% of the FSM dog and cat population, a somewhat grandiose goal. at which time, the dog population will stabilize, or begin to decrease. KOO aims to sponsor as many visits to FSM by veterinaries and ultimately to be able to support a full-time vet based in FSM.
The humane control of the animal population should have a positive impact on the transmission of disease between pets and humans through flea and tick bites.
A controlled population of pets should mean that people can walk on roads and footpaths without the fear of attack by animals who are not under the effective control of their owners.
KOO aims to encourage care and respect for animals, by providing educational material on pet care and pet obedience training in the community.
